A Mezan bottling of 12 year old rum from the Diamond Distillery in Guyana, which has been given a finished period in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, helping to bolster the rich, fruity notes. Finish is quite dry and medium long. All in all I'd have preferred a slightly fuller body and some bolder flavours, but this is a very pleasant effort nonetheless by an sympathetic brand.

Lots of ripe banana and just a hint of grassyness. Smells like maybe overripe pineapple or banana skin.
No added color, no Carmel, more rums need to be honest about the real color from aging and added color.

I find this more like a fine brandy than a rum it's fruity, floral and fresh. It's mezans way of untouched rum you can see that on the colour it's pale strawish with a grassy fresh aroma.
But it mixes well with fruit juice rather than cola. Posted over 2 years ago by Samurdavidov from Latvia with 60 ratings. Posted almost 3 years ago by Martin Kennedy from Australia with ratings.
I try and alternate between sweet , spiced and real rum. This is real rum , light in colour , no sugar or other additives. Not as funky on the nose as I expected , left in the glass for 10 minutes , I found banana , pineapple plus a bit of vanilla.
Quite dry , lots of esters in the taste , a bit of a burn but in a nice way.. Even better with an ice cube..
Excellent rum and coke with a slice of lime.. Not available here in Aussie so will have to try and make the bottle last! Oh and no headache the next morning , very important!!

Jamaica X. This small batch of bottles was carefully blended from rums produced by several different Jamaican distilleries. Our master blender has carefully selected the age and ester content of the chosen spirits so that it contains the best of the typical pungency and tropical flavors of Jamaican rum.
Every batch of Mezan XO is re-aged after blending to encourage the marriage of flavors and enhance the structure and subtlety of the rum. Who is the producer, why is he or she distilling this spirit and how are they doing it?
The mantra is organic and true and the company has grown from roughly half a dozen people 10 years ago to more than 40 today. So to rum and specifically, Mezan.
Many years ago having purchased some casks from Jamaica and Guyana the team left them to the side to mature and almost forgot about them!
The rum is all purchased in cask and then set aside for maturation. It is then bottled one cask at a time and ready for pouring.
Here-in lies the key to Mezan. These are genuinely unique rums. In essence these bottles are time capsules from an age gone by with each drop embodying particular methods and cultures from different parts of the Caribbean all in homage to the Noble Spirit.
Only bottles were ever produced and the end result is classic Jamaica. Light straw coloured with a touch of pale gold, the Mezan X. The second glass is so much better.
You get more of the notes that were in the nose. The finish is still pretty short but as a Jamaican sipper its not bad at the price.
It definitely gives you a premium rum and cola. The rich deep fruity flavours and funk come shining through giving you a very enjoyable and full flavoured drink.
Couple of ice cubes and a squeeze of lime and you have a long drink which would take some matching.
